«Experimenting with new materials is always a great pleasure.»
Vincenzo Sponga
— The challenge of creating a work with sand and on the sand was a stimulating, the concept was bold and vivid: to sew, or rather to re-sew the apartheid wound and combine white and black art in the deeply marked land of South Africa. Indeed, on this particular beach where, weaving the grass to form a long thread and cleansing the excess parts to make it look silky, we have “sutured” two edges of a noticeable cut created ad hoc on the sand, by means of a huge needle with a natural eye made by a branch retrieved on the bay.
